October 6, 2004: Foxy Raises Voter Awareness, Will Appear On VH1 Special
Foxy Brown and Lil' Kim will face off in an effort to encourage youth to vote. The Hip Hop Summit Action Network and PlayStation2 will stage a concert and celebrity video gaming tournament on October 14 to raise voter awareness in advance of the November presidential election, Billboard reports. Foxy, Lil’ Kim, Loon, Run DMC’s Rev. Run, and others will headline the tournament, battling one another in the upcoming PlayStation 2 game “Gran Turismo 4.” Dubbed “Race to the Polls,” the event will also feature performances by Ludacris, Public Enemy, and Mase. Funkmaster Flex, Doug E. Fresh, Biz Markie, and DJ Green Lantern will host the event, to be held at New York City’s Hammerstein Ballroom. Tickets, priced from $15, are available via Ticketmaster. In other news, Foxy will appear in another VH1 hip hop special, having just attended this past Sunday's Hip Hop Honors ceremony. "My Name Is...", the final episode of the cable network's five-part documentary on the history of hip hop, will examine the struggles of female hip hop artists, including Foxy, Lil' Kim, Missy Elliot, and Eve. The episode also follows the 1990's explosion of hip hop talent from cities other than New York and L.A., and concludes by noting the astonishing contemporary influence of hip hop on the worlds of high fashion, big money advertising, professional sports, and national politics. "My Name Is..." premieres on Friday, October 8 at 9:00PM EST, on VH1.
