March 6, 2001: Foxy Speaks Out Against Violence
Foxy Brown was featured on a segment of the popular television program "Extra" on Tuesday, March 6. In an exclusive interview, Foxy expressed her thoughts on the recent shootings outside New York hip hop radio station Hot 97, which have been attributed to the war between her and fellow female rap star Lil' Kim. On Sunday, February 25, at least 22 shots were fired from five guns in an altercation between the posses Lil' Kim and Kiam Holley (Capone of rap duo Capone-N-Noreaga). "I just don't think that somebody should get killed before people realize that something— a change has to happen."

Citing the fact that she was working on her upcoming album at the time the shooting took place, Foxy added:

"I had nothing to do with the shooting."

After playing a censored exerpt from last summer's release "Bang Bang," the Extra interviewer asked Foxy if her blatant attack on Lil' Kim in the CNN single was like "adding fuel to the fire." In response to the question, she answered:

"I think two or three years of just being verbally attacked, I felt like I owed it to my fans."

To further express her disapproval of the violence and defend her position, Foxy added the following statement:

"I made the record with all intentions of it being kept on records, you know, like, a war of words— never, ever thinking that it would escalate into a shooting."

Perhaps the most surprising aspect of the interview was Foxy's desire to put everything behind her and reconcile with former friend Lil' Kim. Not only did Foxy express this sentiment in her "Extra" interview, but also to MTV news the day earlier. Click HERE for the MTV News transcript. In her closing remark of the "Extra" interview, Foxy said:

"We just want to stop it. We just want to say, 'Look, let's put an end to it.'"

Lil' Kim has yet to comment on the shooting and Foxy's proposal on the television program. This interview today was just another example of the extensive media coverage which the Hot 97 shooting has received. Just a few days after the event took place, Foxy Brown and Lil' Kim were featured on the front page of the New York Daily News, and were also featured on MTV and in the popular magazine Entertainment Weekly.
